We see the critical stream within the political economy of health literature as increasingly focused upon neoliberal capitalism and how it makes achieving health equity difficult. In our reading of the literature we see four main themes: (1) the adverse health effects of neoliberal capitalism and the creation of the polycrisis; (2) increasing corporate and business domination of the public policy agenda; (3) the rise of right-wing populist parties in response to deteriorating living and working conditions; and (4) increasing privatization of public health care.
