Proxies’ choices for perspective-taking varied by health condition and the type of information reported. However, regardless of the chosen perspective, familiarity with the person with the condition was an important reason for choosing a perspective. Proxies selected perspectives as useful based on their understanding about the perspective’s advantage for the person, themselves or the communication process. Understanding how proxies approach reporting about someone else can help improve proxy reporting.
