In conclusion, dietary OLE supplementation promoted growth, reduced lipid accumulation by modulating lipid metabolism, promoted antioxidant and immune capacities, reduced intestinal inflammation responses and intestinal lipase activity, protected intestinal integrity, regulated microbial community structure, and thus improved intestinal health in T. ovatus fed HFD. An inclusion level of 1.0% OLE provided demonstrable advantages across multiple physiological parameters in T. ovatus fed HFD. Overall, the current findings have contributed to the alleviation of the problem of excessive lipid accumulation in the liver of fish induced by feeding HFD and the understanding of the beneficial role of OLE, which further supports the development and application of plant extracts as feed additives in aquaculture.
